Join Woodinville Wine Country On The Patio – Here’s Who Is Open

On July 23rd, Gov. Jay Inslee and Secretary of Health John Wiesman announced changes to “Safe Start,” Washington’s phased approach to reopening. The changes target activities that data have shown provide a higher risk of COVID-19 exposure.

Here are some highlights of what this means for Woodinville Wine Country:

RESTAURANTS & BARS

  • Restaurant guidance will now require parties to be members of the same household in order to dine indoors. Outdoor dining and take-away remains available for small parties from different households.
  • Table size for dine-in in Phase 3 will be reduced to five individuals and occupancy reduced from 75% to 50%.
  • Restaurants must also close gaming and social areas, such as pool tables, dart boards and video games.
  • Bars will be closed for indoor service, but can continue outdoor service. Alcohol service inside of restaurants must end by 10 p.m.

WINERIES & TASTING ROOMS

  • Wineries must cease indoor on-premise service. Customers may continue to make/pick up orders and pay at the counter following all social distancing rules.
  • Alcohol service must end by 10 PM
  • Outdoor service is allowed with proper social distancing measures in place.

Cheers for Peers: A Virtual Tasting Series Starring Woodinville’s Finest

Each year we host After Hours wine walk events throughout the summer in our varying wine districts. With the current health conditions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our After Hours events for this upcoming season. However, we have partnered with local wineries and businesses to launch a NEW virtual tasting experience called ‘Cheers for Peers’.

We are very excited to be part of such a strong community here in Woodinville and we cannot wait to share our community with you during this difficult time. Each week we will go ‘Live’ on Facebook and Instagram with varied local businesses. Each episode will highlight different wineries, breweries, distilleries, restaurants, and other local vendors.

You can expect endless, candid conversations between community partners, tastings with pairings, giveaways, special offers, and more. Tune in with us every Thursday night at 6pm starting June 4th for ‘Cheers for Peers’!

Here is the upcoming schedule:

June 4th – Patterson Cellars & Heritage Restaurant & Bar

June 11th – Tinte Cellars

June 18th – Lobo Hills

June 25th – Goose Ridge Wine Estates & Village Wines

Taste along with us! We will keep you updated here with special offers, so you can pre-purchase products from our featured businesses each week.

Northwest Wine: A Case to be Made for Sweet Wines During Any Course

Tri-City Herald by Eric Degerman
at Great Northwest Wine
February 4, 2020

As much as some hate to admit it, Americans like sweet wine. It helps explain why some of the most popular red table wines in the U.S. include a fair bit of residual sugar.

Tim Hanni, one of the most affable, approachable and studious Masters of Wine in the world, pulls on this thread throughout his fascinating book on sensory studies titled “Why You Like The Wines You Like.”

“Our research confirms the people who prefer sweet wines unabashedly declare that they want wine that is sweet, not just off-dry or slightly sweet, and the reticence of the wine industry to employ the word sweet as a descriptor to this segment is unfounded,” he writes. Northwest Wine: Many regional reasons to say ‘Yay!’ to Chardonnay

Tri-City Herald – By Eric Degerman at Great Northwest Wine
January 28, 2020

Merely by typing the word Chardonnay too many wine consumers will turn the page or close the window, but Chardonnay remains America’s most purchased bottle of wine.

And as recently as a year ago, research supported the optimism that interest in the noble white grape of Burgundy is substantial. Silicon Valley Bank in the Bay Area accurately predicted Chardonnay would be in “particularly strong demand” for 2018.

In Washington state, Chardonnay trailed only Cabernet Sauvignon in terms of grapes crushed in 2018. There were 7,403 acres of Chardonnay planted in the Evergreen State, which is 13 percent of the state’s 58,000 acres of vines in the ground.

Read the entire article and list of Chardonnay’s that includes Woodinville’s own Maryhill Winery Tasting Room & Bistro 2017 Chardonnay, Columbia Valley, $17: Out of all the years and Platinums awards, this signals the first time that Richard Batchelor has earned one for America’s favorite wine — Chardonnay. The influence of French oak makes this come across as a reserve style at a nice price. Its theme of Granny Smith apple and pear makes room for some butterscotch and toast, capped by a long lemon/lime finish… on Tri-City Herald

Brian Carter’s Path Remains Solid Gold After 40 years in Washington

Tri-City Herald
January 14, 2020

This year marks Brian Carter’s 40th anniversary as a Washington winemaker, and according to the latest Platinum Judging, the Woodinville producer is making some of the best wines of his storied career.

The three-day competition staged by Wine Press Northwest magazine is an international gathering of Pacific Northwest wines that earned a gold medal somewhere around the world during the previous 12 months. Four of the Brian Carter Cellars wines earned a Platinum, and each reflects his delicious passion for blending and a thoughtful approach to cellaring.

His knowledge of the Columbia Valley carries over into his long-standing relationships with many of the state’s top growers, which explains why the car with the Washington vanity license plate that reads “BLENDS” is frequently spotted in renowned vineyards as he walks the rows to chart the progress of the grapes grown for him. Read the entire article that includes reviews of Brian’s TOP wines… on The Tri-City Herald.

VineLines Dispatch: Tasting Rooms Continue to Swirl Around Woodinville

Great Northwest Wine
January 3, 2020

DeLille Cellars, owned by Greg Lill, Pat Lill Jorgenson, Jay Soloff, founding winemaker Chris Upchurch as well as Bacchus Capital Management in San Francisco, has moved into Woodinville’s new Hollywood Station complex, which it shares with Sparkman Cellars. Industry churn for Washington state’s wine industry during the final months of 2019 brought a flurry of new tasting room activity, much of it centered in and around Woodinville.

DeLille Cellars opens Hollywood Station

DeLille Cellars provides elevated experiences at its new Hollywood Station winemaking facility and tasting room complex in the former Redhook brewery. The much-anticipated opening of Hollywood Station by DeLille Cellars did not disappoint as eager wine lovers flocked to the former Redhook brewery to see and sip. As CEO Tom Dugan points out, the new digs signal the first time since 1998 that DeLille’s winery and retail operations are under one roof. Opting for a more personalized wine tasting experience, all three levels of the new building feature seated tasting experiences with the main level open to the public. The upper floors are available for wine club members and their guests, in addition to space for corporate dinners and events after hours.

Maryhill Winery Tasting Room and Bistro

Maryhill Winery Tasting Room & Bistro opened its second satellite tasting room of 2019 when it welcomed club members and guests to the historic Hollywood Schoolhouse in November. Just down the road, Maryhill Winery opened its third satellite tasting room in the beautifully refurbished Hollywood Schoolhouse.

Heraldnet
Januray 3, 2020

Craig and Vicki Leuthold will look back upon 2019 as an especially exciting time for their Maryhill Winery, a year-long 20th anniversary celebration sparked by the opening of tasting rooms in Vancouver and Woodinville.

And just before Christmas, Wine Press Northwest magazine released the results of its 20th Platinum Judging, which saw their winemaker, Richard Batchelor, earn a record 15 Platinum medals.

Entry into the year-end judging staged by the Tri-City Herald requires that wine having received a gold medal at one of more than 50 competitions around the world during the previous 12 months. The latest Platinum proved that Batchelor and his longtime production manager, Dirk Richardson, are bottling more gold-medal winners than ever before. Read the entire article on The Heraldnet.
