Chateau Ste. Michelle: Number One Wine Brand

Chateau Ste. Michelle Becomes Number One Wine Brand Sold in Food Stores Nationally

by Press Release
August 03, 2017

Woodinville, Wash. — Washington’s founding winery, Chateau Ste. Michelle has come out on top as the number one premium table wine brand sold in food stores nationwide.

Chateau Ste. Michelle received the ranking of the highest-selling wine brand in the premium category by data and ratings company Nielsen, which tracked the volume of sales in the U.S. across 52 weeks ending on June 17th, 2017.

Ted Baseler, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates president and CEO, marvels at the remarkable growth of Chateau Ste. Michelle and credits the pioneering spirit of the region, and continued investment in the winery and its Washington vineyards.

“Who would have known half a century ago that a wine from Washington state would be the #1 in food stores?” remarks Baseler. “It is a testament to decades of hard work, research and constantly striving for enhanced quality in the vineyard and cellar.”

Fifty years ago—in 1967—a small winery called Ste. Michelle Vintners introduced its first vintage of a European-style premium wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yakima Valley.

It was this release that marked the beginning of today’s thriving Washington wine industry. Washington is now the nation’s number two producer of premium wine with more than 50,000 planted acres, nearly 1,000 wineries and 14 American Viticultural Areas (AVAs).

Today, Chateau Ste. Michelle wines are available in all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Located outside of Seattle in Woodinville, Washington, Chateau Ste. Michelle hosts more than 300,000 visitors annually.

Further elevating the state and country’s wine industry, the winery was the first to introduce international wine partners to Washington: Piero Antinori of Tuscany (Col Solare), Ernst Loosen of Germany (Eroica) and Michel Gassier and Philippe Cambie of France (Tenet).

This year, Chateau Ste. Michelle is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with commemorative Cabernet and Chardonnay bottlings, special events, library wine releases, the visitor center expansion, its famous Summer Concert Series and other programs throughout 2017.

The winery combines an ongoing dedication to research with a commitment to classic winemaking traditions. The winery owns 3,900 acres of vineyards in the Columbia Valley of Eastern Washington, including Canoe Ridge Estate and Cold Creek, which are LIVE and Salmon Safe certified. Chateau Ste. Col Solare is an alliance with Tuscany’s Piero Antinori, Eroica Riesling is a partnership with the Mosel’s Ernst Loosen and Tenet is a collaboration with Michel Gassier and Philippe Cambie of France. Chateau Ste. Michelle has received a long list of awards including 22 “Top 100 Wineries of The Year” honors (Wine & Spirits) and 18 “Top 100 Wines” designations (Wine Spectator). Chateau Ste. Michelle also has a long history of giving back to the industry and community. The net proceeds from its popular Summer Concert Series helps fund its charitable giving program, which supports some 400 non-profit organizations annually, has provided more than $3 million for scholarships for high-achieving, low-income students at Washington universities, and supports the Viticulture & Enology Program at Washington State University.

Columbia Winery: Partnership with Seattle Mariners

SEATTLE, May 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Columbia Winery has announced its designation as an Official Partner of the Seattle Mariners for the 2017 and 2018 Major League Baseball seasons. The two-year sponsorship brings together Washington’s first premium winery with Washington’s favorite Major League Baseball team. Both organizations have deep roots in the local Seattle community and this collaboration will attract wine and baseball fans alike.

“Part of what sets Columbia Winery apart is how it embraces the vibrant culture and spirit of Washington,” said Sean Hails, winemaker for Columbia. “Given that, we couldn’t ask for a better team to partner with than the Seattle Mariners, who are similarly woven into the cultural fabric of our state.”

Columbia Winery: Partnership with Seattle Mariners

Columbia Winery has recently undergone a significant packaging update, complemented by ongoing enhancements to its wine. The nationally available wines featuring the new labels are now in markets across the country while the re-labeled tasting room exclusive wines will be revealed throughout the course of 2017.

“We have launched brand new packaging that captures the spirit of the Pacific Northwest,” Hails described. “We also refreshed the wine style to further highlight the signature characteristics of the major winegrowing regions around Washington, from where our grapes are sourced.”

“The Seattle Mariners are pleased to welcome Columbia Winery to our club’s family of valued corporate partners,” said Bob Aylward, Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President, Business Operations. “As Seattle’s hometown baseball team we are thrilled to work with Seattle’s hometown winery and celebrate what we all love about the remarkable region we call home.”

The Sponsorship is already in effect for the 2017 baseball season and will come to life in a myriad of ways throughout the season, both inside and outside of Safeco Field. The Seattle Mariners are currently in 4th place in the American League West and will face the Oakland A’s and the Chicago White Sox in their upcoming homestand.

Woodinville Wine Cellars: Wines Online Only

I just received this news from Woodinville Wine Cellars. The good news is that you can still get their wines online.

Dear Friends,

We are reaching out today to share some bitter-sweet news with you: our mailing list and Cellar Door club members. As many of you are aware, we have been winding down the winery over the past year in order to shift our focus to our non-profit, Give Back Hope. As a company dedicated to giving back to communities in need all over the world, we have decided to focus our energies and resources to helping those who are less fortunate. As such, the winery will no longer be open to the public, and there will not be any more wine club releases.

That being said, we are still here, and there is wine in the cellar waiting to be enjoyed! We will continue to sell wine online and in the winery during normal business hours, and are happy to ship to your home or office. In addition, we do plan to open our doors this fall for one final celebration.

We greatly appreciate your support and dedication to Woodinville Wine Cellars over the years. If you have any questions at all, or would like to make arrangements for shipping or pick up of your wine, please don’t hesitate to send us an email.

For more information on Give Back Hope, please visit our website. Our team is heading to our orphanage in Nepal in June to bring supplies and visit the children who live there. If you would like to donate to the cause, please click the button below.

Wishing you all the best,
The Woodinville Wine Cellars Team
